Attention Race Teams!Attention Race Teams!
We get more and more calls every week about Motorsports insurance. Want to point something out that we get calls on constantly: Yes, we can insure your Race Hauler the CORRECT way as well as your racing equipment. We also insure manufacturers, part warehouses, race tracks and special event liability. There are people on social media outlets that motion people down the misguided path of telling insurance carriers that you have a recreational motorhome (in reality you have a toterhome in which there is a difference) and that your racing contents are personal household items. This does not fly once a claim adjuster is involved. You can sell whatever bag of goods you choose to someone over the phone. When it matters is when you have a loss and you are trying to explain that your personal recreational motorhome is actually a toterhome that pulls race car haulers to and from dirt track facilities all over the place on a frequent basis. When you own a several hundred thousand dollar race hauler and the same in racing equipment, paying $700 sounds like a great story to tell until something goes sideways and you try to explain to a claims adjuster that your recreational car trailer is actually a 200k Liftgate Stacker Racing Trailer in which 99.99999% of agents, adjusters and underwriters have no idea what that actually is.
I can share double digit stories alone, just in 2023, where I was called from someone who was given my number, after they learned they were getting a claim denial and cancelled on claims related to their racing stuff. Most insurance policies have motorsports exclusions in them for a reason. Are there stories where people insured incorrectly and got away with a claim that slipped through the cracks and a payout occurred, sure. That can happen. If the claim is bad enough where actual claim adjusters show up and start asking 2nd level questions, there is a good possibility that the claim is going sideways. If you find yourself on the phone with your insurance agent and they have no idea what the hell you have when you are explaining it to them to try and insure, that most likely has all the ingredients of turning into a bad experience at some point in the process.
I have done this work for 15 years now. I have seen it all and heard every imaginable story there is on how people sell this stuff to insurance carriers to get unrealistic rates and how they are going to justify their story in the event a claim is to occur. To date, all these years later, we have had no one get a claim denied who had their motorsports package insured correctly with us.
We get the occasional call where someone has a Liftgate Stacker Super Hauler worth 700k and 500k worth of racing equipment and complains about the cost of insuring all of it not because they use it for racing and the premium not being $1,000 a year. Its the same position from the person who owns a Ferrari and complains about the gas being too expensive or the person who owns a 1.5 million dollar home and is unhappy with the electric bill.
We do motorsports insurance work all over the country. If you have any questions or concerns about how your stuff is either insured or “believed to be insured”, reach out to us.
